Social & Emotional Wellness
Mater Dei High School strives to support students and families, recognizing that today’s stressful lifestyles make this more important than ever. Our students’ mental health is just as important as their physical health. Because it isn’t always obvious when a child is struggling emotionally, recognizing the signs and seeking early, effective support are vital for long-term well-being.
In addition, through the Be Well MD wellness curriculum, taught in students’ Religion classes, Mater Dei helps students strengthen their social-emotional skills and build lifelong habits for mental wellness.
The Counseling Team partners with Mater Dei students to help them:
-
Understand how to set goals and create an action plan
-
Develop and use interpersonal skills with peers, teachers, and coaches
-
Foster a growth mindset
-
Apply stress-management strategies
-
Demonstrate responsibility
-
Practice life skills for young adulthood
-
Explore different definitions of success
-
Define personal values, beliefs, and life goals
-
Understand the stress response and use techniques for managing stress and conflict
Additional resources are available on our Wellness and Rady Children’s Health page and in our Virtual Calming Room.
