Mission & Philosophy
MISSION STATEMENT
Mater Dei High School is a Catholic, co-educational, college preparatory high school of the Diocese of Orange, California. Our mission is to provide a holistic education rooted in Catholic faith, values, and the tradition of Honor, Glory, and Love. We are renowned for being a warm, welcoming, and diverse community where students flourish academically, athletically, artistically, and spiritually while embodying servant leadership. We empower our students to develop into ethical and inspirational leaders who positively impact their communities and the world.
PHILOSOPHY
Mater Dei High School is dedicated to the mission of Catholic education, as envisioned in Church documents and teachings, rooted in our core principles of Honor, Glory, and Love:
HONOR
We honor the God-given talents and diversity of our students through formational and innovative learning experiences. By acknowledging parents and guardians as the primary educators of their children, we cultivate an inclusive and supportive community dedicated to each student’s unique learning needs. With a rigorous curriculum that incorporates faith, creativity, technology, and the skills necessary for college and career readiness, our highly-qualified and committed educators support students as they strive for academic excellence.
GLORY
We give glory to God through prayer, sacraments, and service which fosters the spiritual life of the school. Mater Dei is committed to the guidelines established for Catholic education in foundational Church documents, teachings, and traditions. We support and challenge students to develop their full potential within a Catholic educational community rooted in gospel values and virtues.
LOVE
We develop faith-filled, responsible servant leaders who are committed to serving God, the Church, and their respective communities with a profound sense of social justice founded in love. With a focus on spiritual, emotional, and physical wellness, students strengthen their love for themselves and one another as they become one body in Christ. Recognizing the world is ever-changing, we empower students to pursue personal growth and a love for life-long learning as they embrace equity, justice, and peace. Mater Dei students graduate ready to become global citizens equipped with the skills necessary to respond to the challenges of today’s world.
Through our patroness Mary Mater Dei, the school embraces the Catholic faith as well as a rich tradition of academic excellence and compassionate leadership.
