The matter of student athletes at the high school level being able to be financially compensated for the use of their name, image, or likeness, is a new experience for us. The following video provides important information for parents and students regarding NIL.

if you're the parent of a high school athlete you've probably heard about recent changes to nil or name image and likeness rules in college sports Last Summer the Supreme Court ruled that for the first time College athletes should be paid for the use of their name image and likeness meaning that they could signed deals with Brands and be paid for doing so for the top college athletes particularly though with a large social media following it meant being able to earn significant amounts of money while they were still in college so what are these changes mean for you and your student-athlete at least here in California and I L changes mean that high school athletes find deals as well if they do it the right way according to rule 212 of the California interscholastic Federation bylaws a student-athlete can enter into an NFL contract and maintain his or her eligibility as long there's no school team or School affiliation on a practical level what it means is this don't do anything as part of an nil deal that features the modern-day name logo colors Sports fields or anything else is supposed to put the school how can signing a deal affect College eligibility if you haven't violated any rules with an n i l DeLand High School it won't affect your college eligibility do parents need to sign these contracts absolutely contracts with minors aren't legally binding and no legitimate company wants to sign a contract with a minor definitely make sure you're assigning on the contract for any nildo your child size and always always always consult a lawyer if you and your student-athlete have signed a deal can you receive money for it yes you can once you've signed a deal you and your child can receive payment changes to name image and likeness it opened up new opportunities for high school athletes in California but remember those opportunities it shouldn't come at the cost of your child high school or college eligibility keep the athletic department at Mater Dei in the loop about any opportunities that come your way to make sure that you're compliant with school and c i f and I'll rules
