Monarch of the Month: March 2026 - Thomas Mitchell

Thomas Mitchell ’26 chose Mater Dei following in the footsteps of his three older brothers, drawn by the opportunity to grow in the performing arts while strengthening his faith in a supportive Catholic community. Since arriving on campus, he has embraced leadership roles that reflect both his talents and his commitment to serving others.

Before coming to Mater Dei, Thomas attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School and remains active in the St. John the Baptist parish community. At Mater Dei, he serves as a Spiritual Leader in Campus Ministry and is deeply involved in the performing arts through Theatre, Bristol Boys, Vocal FX, and Chamber Singers in the choral program.

Thomas has used his musical gifts to serve the community, singing at school Masses, assisting with retreats, and supporting Special Games throughout his four years. He has also contributed his time working with younger students through choir and drama programs, sharing his love of music and helping guide others in their faith.

Among his favorite Mater Dei traditions are the All School Masses, especially Marian Mass, where he values the opportunity to sing in the Grotto and use his gifts to glorify God. A standout memory was performing with Chamber Singers at the 2024 Western American Choral Directors Association conference, where the group shared a message of hope and joy through music.

Academically, Thomas holds a 4.67 weighted GPA and has been recognized with the St. Michael’s Book Award for Community Engagement and Service. He also served as Mater Dei’s first Liturgical Music Director, a role that reflects his leadership and dedication to campus ministry and worship.

Thomas describes his Mater Dei experience in one word: blessings, reflecting the faith formation, friendships, and opportunities that have shaped his time as a Monarch.

After graduation, Thomas plans to attend a university with a strong Catholic environment and is considering majoring in business or English as he continues discerning his future vocation.

Outside of school, Thomas enjoys singing, building Legos, working at Fountain Bowl, and spending time playing games with his family.
