As ASB President, Kyle Cousino has made student leadership and school spirit the heart of his Mater Dei experience. A proud graduate of St. Hedwig School, his elementary school alma mater, and a member of Saint Bartholomew Parish in Long Beach, Kyle embodies what it means to be a Monarch through his commitment to community, faith, and involvement.
Kyle balances his leadership role with a wide range of activities, including indoor and beach volleyball, Monarch Connection, and even serving as President of the Hacky Sack Club. Academically, he maintains a 4.0 GPA and has consistently earned First Honors. He has also given his time to service, contributing hours at St. Hedwig Vacation Bible School, where he enjoyed giving back to his elementary school alma mater.
When he learned he had been named Monarch of the Month for August, Kyle said he was “so excited and happy” to be recognized. He credits his experiences in ASB for shaping him into a positive role model and teaching him what it truly means to represent Mater Dei with pride.
Kyle describes Honor, Glory, and Love as the foundation of Monarch character, guiding him to live with respect for Mary, Mater Dei, and to lead by example. His favorite memories at Mater Dei come from being part of ASB and volleyball, two experiences that taught him teamwork and the joy of being part of something bigger than himself.
Outside of school, Kyle enjoys volleyball, cooking, discovering new restaurants, listening to music, reading, art, going to the beach, baking, taking walks, and making new friends. Looking ahead, he is planning to continue his education in college, carrying forward the lessons of leadership, service, and school pride that have defined his time at Mater Dei.
Kyle sums up his Mater Dei journey in one word: “involvement.” Whether in the classroom, on the court, or leading his peers as ASB President, his deep engagement has left a lasting impact on the Monarch community.
