Following in the footsteps of her brothers, Damien ’23 and Sean ’22, Julia Bocan chose Mater Dei to grow in her faith and take part in the traditions that make the Monarch experience unique. A graduate of Our Lady Queen of Angels, Newport Beach which is also her parish, Julia has fully immersed herself in student life, serving as a leader in ASB, Campus Ministry, the Model United Nations Club, and as a standout on the Varsity Girls Lacrosse team.
With a 4.38 GPA, Julia has been named to the Principal’s List every semester, represented Mater Dei this past summer at Girls State, and was honored as Second Team Trinity League for lacrosse. She is also the proud recipient of MD Campus Ministry’s Christian Service Award, which is given to students who have completed 400 or more hours of community service. Julia has gone above and beyond, giving more than 500 hours through RAD Camp, Special Camp for Special Kids, and Someone Cares Soup Kitchen.
When she learned she had been named Monarch of the Month for August 2025, Julia said she was “so excited and honored” to be recognized by her teachers and administrators. The surprise recognition left her grateful for the opportunity to represent the Class of 2026 in this special way.
For Julia, the Girls Lacrosse Program has been one of the greatest highlights of her Monarch experience. She describes it as the place where she found her strongest team bond and “the most fun I’ve had on a team.” The joy and energy of home games stand out as some of her favorite memories, moments that capture the spirit, unity, and pride of being a Monarch.
Julia calls her Mater Dei journey “impactful.” From the bond of her lacrosse team to the spiritual depth she gained at Notre Dame Vision, she has treasured the moments that shaped her faith and friendships.
Looking ahead, she hopes to attend college on the East Coast, pursuing studies in political science, education, or real estate. Wherever her path leads, Julia carries with her the values of Honor, Glory, and Love that will guide her for life.
