Cianna Gagliardino

Outstanding Scholar | AP Scholar with Distinction | National Hispanic Recognition Awardee | Seal of Biliteracy – Spanish

University of California, Los Angeles: Neuroscience

With a 4.8 GPA, a distinguished record of academic achievement, and a heart for service, Cianna Gagliardino graduates as one of Mater Dei’s most accomplished students—and one of its most gracious. Named the Class of 2025 Outstanding Scholar, Cianna also earned the AP Scholar with Distinction Award, the National Hispanic Recognition Award, and the Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish.

A graduate of Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic School, Cianna chose Mater Dei for its strong academic programs and sense of community. “I was drawn to the atmosphere and the connection between students,” she says. “It felt like a place where I could truly grow.”

And grow she did. Cianna served as a senior class senator through ASB, competed in Academic Decathlon, and was involved in Psychology Club and even Roblox Club—all while excelling in a challenging course load. But it was Academic Decathlon that left the greatest mark. “It’s where I made friends, prepared for college, and learned the most about myself,” she shares.

Cianna’s passion for science and service intersect in her plans to attend UCLA, where she will major in Neuroscience. “I’ve always had a deep personal connection with the subject,” she says. “I want to understand the human mind and use that knowledge to help others.”

Through 116 service hours, Cianna gave back primarily to her former school, volunteering at events like Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat. “Giving back to the community that raised me felt meaningful,” she says.

She describes her Mater Dei experience in one word: connection. From friendships to mentorships, her four years were shaped by the people around her. “I’ll miss the daily interactions with classmates and peers the most,” Cianna says. “Those small moments of connection made a big difference.”

If she could relive one day? “The Cultural Fair,” she says. “My clubs hosted a food booth—it was fun, rewarding, and a great chance to connect with others.”

A scholar, leader, and community builder, Cianna leaves Mater Dei ready to light the way for others—rooted in Honor, Glory, and Love.
