Learn, Live, Lead: MD ASB
The Associated Student Body of Mater Dei High School seeks to develop student leaders committed to not only serving their school community but also evolving into global citizens. Through servant-leadership, we educate our students in the power of change and equip them with skills for a lifetime of leadership. Each of our ASB officers and commissioners is dedicated to providing activities and events which, in the spirit of our patroness Mary, Mater Dei, promote inclusion, heighten school spirit, and foster an innovative student-centered community.
The Entire MDHS Associated Student Body (ASB) involves four ASB officers, four class officers at each grade level, approximately 300 commissioners and 80 class senators. The activities director, associate activities director, and class advisors provide training and guidance, and coordinate this active working structure of nearly 400 students. Mater Dei’s ASB program has grown exponentially over the years and now includes more than just class officers and a handful of club representatives.
In an effort to represent all student interests, ASB includes 15 commissions; Mater Dei commissions cover areas including: social awareness, school spirit, special events, educational enrichment, environmental services and community outreach.
ASB student leaders organize and facilitate more than 150 activities and events each year. These events include dances, rallies, club fairs, lunchtime activities, community service projects, prayer services, student rowdy rooters at various athletic events and much more.
The organization skills learned through these events will serve these students for a lifetime, but it is the communication, teamwork, confidence, time management that make these Monarchs successful in every area of life after MDHS.
Through ASB involvement and the encouragement of faculty and administration, members of Mater Dei’s ASB now hold prestigious leadership positions around the country in major corporations, the community, the Church and U.S. Government.
Our initial Learn, Live, Lead Affinity Fund goal is to provide an ample, state-of-the-art working space for our 300 leaders with the expansion of the existing ASB offices and work space.
The expanded space will afford our students:
* A leadership classroom & study space (MD currently offers one leadership course for ASB and Class Officers. This course is Cal State and UC approved.)
* Student workspace – will include meeting and computer areas
* Reconfigured director’s offices to enhance efficiency for both students and faculty
* A new student welcome space – will include digital bulletin boards highlighting both upcoming and past events
Once the ASB building is funded, the ASB AFFINITY GROUP will provide assistance for ASB fees, dances, and experiential travel opportunities to those who may not otherwise be able to afford it. Your investment in our leadership program, will help provide the students with the necessary skills to be leaders who affect change now and in the future.
