Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for NHS at MD, students must:
 
  • Apply for NHS
  • Be in grades 10, 11, or 12
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.3 GPA or higher
  • Be up-to-date with Mater Dei community service hours each year
    • Sophomores = 25 hours
    • Junior = 50 hours
    • Seniors = 75 hours
    • Your hours must already by recorded by Campus Ministry. It takes a minimum of 2 weeks to have your service hours verified, so turn in your hours as soon as possible.
  • Demonstrate evidence of service
    • Be involved in at least two co-curricular activities (i.e. club, job, sport, church group, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc.)
  • Demonstrate evidence of leadership ability
    • i.e., club officer, peer tutor, assistant manager, team captain, etc.
    • Sophomores can use leadership from 8th grade if necessary.
  • Demonstrate personal integrity
    • Students must be cleared by Dean's Office and CANNOT be on a disciplinary contract
  • Continued membership in the chapter is based upon students maintaining the standards under which they were admitted as members.
 
*Transfer students - Only students who have attended the school the equivalent of one semester may be considered for membership. When transferring an active NHS membership it is the obligation of the student member to contact the new adviser and present evidence of NHS membership in another chapter.
