St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Teacher of the Year

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (1774–1821) was the first native-born American to be canonized as a saint. Born in New York City, she converted to Catholicism after her husband’s death and dedicated her life to education and charity. In 1809, she founded the Sisters of Charity, laying the groundwork for the U.S. parochial school system. Her legacy continues to inspire Catholic educators nationwide.

The St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Teacher of the Year Award was inaugurated by the Diocese of Orange in 2022 to celebrate educators who embody Christian values and contribute significantly to the spiritual, academic, and social growth of our students. This prestigious honor recognizes teachers who inspire excellence in their classrooms and exemplify the mission of Catholic education. Teachers at Mater Dei are nominated for this award by their colleagues, highlighting the respect and admiration they earn within the school community.
