Graduation Information

We will host two graduation ceremonies on Saturday, May 29th. The ceremonies will be held at 9:00am and 4:30pm.

As a reminder, if you or anyone in your party is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea) we ask that you stay home and view the ceremony via Live Stream instead.

 

 

Time, Date and Location

Q: When are the graduation ceremonies scheduled?

A: We will host two graduation ceremonies on Saturday, May 29th. The ceremonies will be held at 9:00am and 4:30pm.

 

Q: Where will the ceremonies take place?

A: Both ceremonies will take place on the Mater Dei campus on the baseball/soccer field

 

 

Arrival & Entry

Q: What time can families and graduating seniors begin arriving for their assigned ceremony?

A: Gates for the 9:00am ceremony will open at 7:30am. Gates for the 4:30pm ceremony will open at 3:00pm. Seating for families will be on a first-come/first-serve basis and families are encouraged to arrive early.

 

Q: Where will I enter and park?

A: All families will enter the Mater Dei campus through Monarch Way/Edinger Ave. Security personnel will direct you to park in the Monarch Way lot under the solar panels. If necessary, overflow parking will be available on the first floor of the parking structure.

 

Q: Where do we go after we have parked?

A: Security personnel will direct families toward the fields. Graduating seniors will check-in at the check-in table in front of the Meruelo Athletic Center. After seniors have checked-in, they will enter the MAC where they will be staged for the ceremony. Guests will be directed to the fire lane located by the soccer field where they will present their entry ticket to security staff. Guests will then proceed onto the field where they will wait until the ceremony begins.

 

Q: Can we select our own seats after we have entered the baseball field?

A: No. All guests will be ushered by security staff to their seats. Seating will be assigned on a first-come/first-serve basis based on when families arrive. Guests will not be allowed to save seats for members of their party who have not yet arrived. Accordingly, it is highly encouraged that your entire party arrive together.

 

 

Ceremony

Q: How long will the ceremony last?

A: The ceremony is expected to last approximately one hour.

 

 

Departure & Exit

Q: Where will I meet my graduate after the ceremony?

A: Families and guests will meet graduating seniors on the football field, which is immediately next to the baseball field. Families will be instructed on how to enter the football field at the end of the ceremony. Graduates will be escorted to the football field after their exit processional.

 

Q: Will my family have an opportunity to take pictures after the ceremony?

A: Yes. Families will be allowed to take pictures on the football field after the ceremony.

 

Q: How will I exit the Mater Dei campus after the ceremony?

A: Security personnel will direct traffic toward the appropriate exit.

 

 

COVID-19

Q: Will face masks be required?

A: Yes. Mater Dei High School will continue to follow CDC guidelines for schools. Accordingly, all guests and graduating seniors will be required to wear a face mask at all times while on the Mater Dei campus and throughout the duration of the entire ceremony.

 

Q: Will physical distancing be in place?

A: Yes. All seating for guests and graduates will be spaced according to current CDC guidelines.

 

Q: Will hand sanitizing stations be available?

A: Yes. Hand sanitizing stations will be placed throughout the venue.

 

 

Additional Items

Q: Can graduating seniors decorate their cap?

A: No.

 

Q: Can graduating seniors wear leis?

A: Yes.

 

Q: Can students bring their cell phones into the ceremony?

A: No. Students are not allowed to bring cell phones or other electronic devices with them into the ceremony. Students are asked to leave these items in their cars or with their parents.

 

Q: What is the dress code for graduating seniors?

A: Males: Dress shirt, tie and dress pants. All males are expected to be clean shaven and neatly groomed.

Females: Christian decent dress. All students are allowed to wear either dress shoes or     sneakers; heels are not allowed on the field turf. Graduating seniors are highly encouraged to remove their gowns from the packaging in advance of the ceremony to ensure it is wrinkle-free.

 

All students will be required to wear a face mask at all times during the ceremony. Students will be provided with a face mask inside their Grad GrabBags, which they will be asked to wear. 

 

Q: Can I bring balloons or signs to the ceremony?

A: No. In order to prevent anyone’s view from being obstructed, we ask that you not bring balloons or any signs to the ceremony.

 

Q: Can I bring an umbrella to protect against the sun?

A: Yes. You may bring an umbrella to protect against the sun as you wait for the ceremony to begin. However, to prevent this from blocking anyone else’s view, you will be required to put it away at the start of the ceremony.

 

Q: Will professional photographers be on site?

A: Yes. South Coast Photographic will be at our ceremony and your graduating senior will have a professional portrait taken to commemorate their big day.

 

Q: Are food or beverages allowed?

A: No food or drinks except for bottled water will be allowed onto the fields. 

 

Q: Will restrooms be available during the ceremony?

A: Yes. The restrooms in front of the MAC as well as those in the 600 wing will be available for use. Signage will also be displayed to direct you to these restrooms. 

 

Q: When will I receive my diploma?

A: Students receive their diploma cover at graduation and the actual diploma will be mailed to each student early July

 

 

ADA Seating

Q: Will ADA seating be available?

A: Yes. If you will require ADA seating, click here to let us know.

 

Q: What will ADA seating look like?

A: For ease of access, ADA seating will be located on the side of the field nearest to the Monarch Way lot. A special runner will be placed on the field turf to facilitate movement of wheelchairs and/or walkers over the field turf itself. This section will provide a line of vision of the stage and will also have a large screen immediately next to it. Click here to view a diagram of the field. The ADA seating section is indicated by the path highlighted in yellow.

 

Q: If one member of our party will require ADA seating, do we all have to sit together?

A: All of your party members may sit together. However, if your party would like to “split up,” they may do so as well.

 

Q: Will ADA parking be available?

A: Yes. ADA parking will be located on the 1st floor of the parking structure and in front of the Meruelo Athletic Center. Security personnel will direct you to these parking spaces.
