Mater Dei, Santa Margarita
Qualify for Southern Section Championship

Three teams from the Trinity League had to play their CIF-SS team regional at a new course this season, and the qualifying event proved to be a bit more nerve racking than in the past.
Instead of stressing over winning the tournament, for a while, Santa Margarita, Servite and Mater Dei all had doubts about making it out of Sierra La Verne Country Club to the next round.

Mater Dei Wins Another Tournament

Candlewood Country Club is among the shortest courses that a boys golf team will see during the high school season, stretching a mere 6,177 yards. That, however, doesn't mean it's any easier. It's a quirky, old-style course that rewards shot makers, and those who have course knowledge.
Mater Dei senior Camden Price teed off here for the 10th time on Monday during the Herald Invitational, and he was the only one in the field to come in under par, shooting a 3-under 67 to help Mater Dei win its third tournament of the season.

Mater Dei Beats Another Trinity League Rival

Santa Margarita coach Chuck Morales, looked down at the scorecard, got out of his golf cart and conceded the match to his Trinity League boys golf rival even though the last three players were still lining up their putts on the ninth green here at Tijeras Creek Golf Club.
At first Mater Dei coach Ollie Martin didn't want to shake Morales' hand for fear of jinxing his Monarchs, but in the end No. 3 Mater Dei beat the No. 3 Eagles on their home course, 185-191, to remain undefeated through four Trinity League matches. Mater Dei senior Andrew Namkoong posted a 2-under 34 to win medalist honors and drop his nine-hole scoring average to 36.
