Summer School

Summer School, 2009, will be the 5th year of a five week, daily, Fast ForWord reading and language processing class at Mater Dei. Fast ForWord is a software program developed and researched by Scientific Learning Corporation. The tenet which drives this program is that human brains continue to grow and develop with multi-sensory practice; reading, task focus, and information processing speed can be improved for anybody. The results of a 5 week, 5 day per week, one hour per day Fast ForWord program show increases in student vocabulary, reading comprehension, and reading rate via pre/post testing data. Students involved with Fast ForWord report feeling their brains wake up and their senses of personal competence increasing in school. Two, one hour long, afternoon sessions will be offered in the Learning Center at Mater Dei with a fulltime teacher, pre-post testing, student incentives, and progress reports. There is no grade; however students will know their progress and will receive a certificate of accomplishment. Students will also learn how their brains work. There is room for a total of 6 students, 3 per class. The cost is $750. per student. There will be two scholarships awarded.
