Shadow Program

Thank you for your interest in the Mater Dei Shadow Program!  Available shadow dates for the 2010-2011 school year are now posted on the calendar.  Click HERE to schedule a Shadow Day.

Q: What is the Shadow Program?
A: The Shadow Program is designed to give your student a feel for Mater Dei life. Your student will attend classes and lunch with a Mater Dei student host. Students in 8th grade and high school transfers may shadow on select pre-approved dates during October through May.  Students in 7th grade may shadow on select pre-approved dates during February through May.

Q: Must students know a Mater Dei student to participate?
A: If your student knows a current Mater Dei student (in good standing), you may request to shadow him/her. Otherwise, your student will be paired with a Mater Dei student based on the interests you provide on the online shadow request form (i.e. activities, sports, etc). Sibling shadows are also permitted.

Q: Must students be accepted to Mater Dei before they participate in this program?
A: Acceptance is not required, however the program is reserved for prospective 7th and 8th grade students or high school students interested in transferring from another school to Mater Dei.

The regular 6-block school day ends at 2:25 pm (1:55 pm on Thursdays).  If the MD student host is taking an optional block 7 class, shadows are welcome to attend.  The 7-block school day ends at 3:15 pm (2:45 pm on Thursdays). On minimum days, school will conclude at 12:00 p.m. Students must be picked up/signed out by a parent/guardian or the MD host in the Office of Advancement.

Q: Do visiting students need to pack a lunch?
A: Your student is welcome to bring his or her own sack lunch or if you choose to try our food service program, $5.00 is enough to purchase lunch here on campus.

Q: How do I sign up for a Shadow Day?
A: First, a parent or guardian should view available dates on the calendar and then submit an online request to schedule the Shadow Day.   Shadows should be scheduled at least one week prior, however dates often fill up months in advance.  If you have any questions, please e-mail shadowprogram@materdei.org or leave a message on the Shadow Program voicemail at (714) 850-9535.

Important 2010-2011 Shadow Date Information
Mater Dei High School offers the Shadow Program to 8th grade students and high school transfer students during October through May and to 7th grade students during February though May. The number of Shadows on campus on any given day is limited to 15. Please note that dates fill up very quickly, especially Spirit Rally days!   Special events (ie. Masses, Spirit Rallies) scheduled on certain Shadow Days are noted on the calendar and are subject to change.
