Many would agree that the Gordon and Gail Lee Family Campus Ministry center is the heart of Mater Dei. Students are regularly popping in to the chapel for a quiet place to pray or to say hello to Ms. Helen Steves, Director of Campus Ministry. It has become a place of comfort and refuge for students.
As a result, Helen comes across many students and families that need a little extra assistance. Whether it be for a service trip or retreat, a ticket to the prom, a text book, a uniform, lunch money, or even a Christmas tree. Campus Ministry has made all of that happen for families in need. Helen says, “All that I do is live what the gospel has asked us to do.”
A few years ago, a group of families, led by past and current parents, took note of the great work that Helen and Campus Ministry were doing and started a fund. The money raised is meant to supplement those extra items or things that students need or want to do but can’t. However, many of those students are kindly asked to give back a little of their time in return. They are invited to help out with Campus Ministry activities.
“It is because of such generous families that this fund was made a reality. On behalf of Campus Ministry, thank you to those families who have supported the Helen Steves’ Honorary Fund and May God Bless you always,” said Helen.
