Lenten Outreach

GIVE:

This year, as we begin the discipline of Lent which is prayer, fasting, and charity, we are given another opportunity to do acts of kindness through our Annual Lenten Outreach.  

Mater Dei students are joining other organizations from our diocese to reach out this Lenten Season to help the children of the Posada Shelter in Mexicali, Mexico.  With the financial donations collected, we aim to provide much-needed food, clothing, and support to the families living in the shelter.

 

Our partner in this outreach, “Border Compassion,”  provides a direct humanitarian response to families living at the Cobina Posada del Migrante Shelter in Mexicali, Mexico which houses up to 150 people. Mexicali is a border town three hours east of San Diego that is inundated with people fleeing their home countries.  Families apply for an immigration hearing and wait in the shelter to be called for an interview which happens either in Tijuana or Mexicali, Mexico. This process can take a good amount of time and these families are in dire need of food, clothing, and shelter. 

 

Monetary Donations are being accepted during homerooms, every day in Campus Ministry, and during designated lunch times, or you may give via credit card below.  Thank you in advance for your generous support!

• Ash Wednesday All-School Mass (February 14)
• MD Lenten Penance Service and Sacrament of Reconciliation (February 28 & 29)
• Holy Tuesday All-School Mass (March 26)
• Eucharistic Adoration (Blocks 1 & 2 on Fridays)
• Weekly Mass (both lunches Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday)
• Stations of the Cross in the Grotto (at the beginning of both lunches on Fridays during Lent)
