First Generation Student Program

First Generation Student Program

As part of our mission statement, Mater Dei High School provides a holistic Catholic education, which serves a diverse community of students.  In efforts to best serve our students who identify as first generation college applicants, our Guidance and Counseling Office has created a program to help support our students through the college search and application process.  As a college preparatory high school, we begin the college process freshman year.

The program provides:

  • Guest speakers (for each grade level) to promote educational and career objectives.
  • College application assistance for seniors in the Fall and Spring.
  • Financial aid assistance; FAFSA for seniors in the Spring and Scholarship Information for all grade levels.
  • Parents/legal guardians educational night function opportunities to learn how to best support their student through high school and the college admission process, hosted by the Guidance and Counseling Office.

Mater Dei High School defines a first generation student as “a student whose parents/legal guardians have not graduated from a 4 year university in the United States.”

The First Generation Program events are communicated to students and parents via email and/or through the school announcements.
